Purpose and responsibility

The museum should by collecting, recording, conservation, research and communication and within its responsibility work for the preservation of Danish heritage and highlight contemporary art’s history and current forms of expression, as well as its aesthetic and epistemological dimensions. The museum will through its work contribute to a documentation and preservation of the country’s heritage and illustrate conditions and changes in art history. The museum will also relate its work to relevant international developments, both within the Western European cultural sphere as beyond.

The museum should make its collections accessible to the public and make them available for research and publicize the results of both the museum’s own research, as well as other research based on museum collections.

The museum’s responsibility is contemporary art, as reflected in word, image and sound art and its mixed forms – performance, installations and other electronic or other media – and as it is practiced through every single expression or combination of several forms of artistic expression . The museum’s name: “Word, Image, Sound” is an expression of diversity. The term “contemporary art” emphasizes the constant movement in accordance with the at any time existing artistic experimenting areas. The museum will, through his work, document and communicate both the process and the final work, and where appropriate, be ‘remembering’, ie. work collecting. But the primary aim will be to create a space for and document the at any time development taking place.

The museum’s activities in other museums’ geographical areas of responsibility should happen in collaboration with them.
