TOTAL_ACTION is the third and last part of the exhibition trilogy _ACTION, where a number of artists experiment with new art and ways of distribution. The studies and questions were formulated and identified in the exhibitions SOCIAL_ACTION in 2007 and INTER_ACTION in 2005. The exhibition trilogy’s aim is to identify and create interaction between the audience, art and new media.
The exhibition TOTAL_ACTION is built around the project MAP - Media Art Platform and a number of individual projects that relate to the museum's collection and profile.
Participating artists: Mogens Jacobsen (DK), Carl Emil Carlsen (DK), Sebastian Campion (DK), Astrid Lomholt (DK), Karin Søndergaard (DK) & Kjell Yngve Petersen (UK/DK), Lars Lundehave Hansen (DK) and HC Gilje (NO).
MAP - Media Art Platform (MAP) MAP is an education and research project identifying and communicating the museum's collection through new digital media. The aim is to make the collection more accessible and interactive, so that the audience experience and interact directly with the works of art.
MAP experiments with the possibilities provided by new digital media, such as "pervasive computing", "tangible computing", "augmented reality", "mixed reality", "reactive media" et al. Concepts identifying how people and digital data meet in physical and media created social spaces.
MAP is also a storage and registration project that makes it possible to store and handle digital data without restrictions. Experience, registration and preservation linked in a new reality, where the collection's special documentary nature and focus that is unique to the Museum of Contemporary Art is the center of attention.
Works
MAP projects:
HØRBAR#3 by Mogens Jacobsen: In Audio Bar # 3 Mogens Jacobsen has poured sound art from the museum's collection into bottles and invites visitors to mix their drinks. Like on wine bottles, the bottles in the Audio Bar have labels listing a number of subjective parameters describing the contents: Silence-Noise, Slow-Fast, Design-Improvisation et al. For every bottle put on the bar, the audio experience expands.
METASYN by Carl Emil Carlsen: Meta View examines how metadata, information and records from the museum's work database can be used to identify and visualize the collection. A digital platform gives access to a complete overview; a meta view, highlighting relationships between the works and artists across time. You can navigate in the museum's collection with a modified Wii remote and move dynamically between 2D overview and 3D browsing.
SOCIAL SOUVENIR by Sebastian Campion: Social Souvenir is an installation establishing social experiences among people who may never have met each other. The installation is based on 300 T-shirts, sold at The Museum of Contemporary Art. All T-shirts have printed text fragments inspired by selected artists in the museum's collection, including Yoko Ono, Erik Satie, Marcel Duchamp and Per Højholt.

TOTAL_MAP: Total_Map is a lounge where the audience in their own pace - can search for works in the museum’s collection - and watch them in the museum's listening chairs.
Individual projects:
MIRROR-ZONE-SITE and ZEN SOFA ARRANGEMENT by Karin Søndergaard & Kjell Yngve Petersen:
MIRROR-ZONE-SITE is a mirror mechanism with video cameras and flat screen monitors. Actions and movements by the audience are captured and delayed through computers. The audience experience themselves from several angles and fixed perspectives, and become performative players who can compose a montage of images. You are in a situation where you can explore the dual functions of both being yourself, and experiencing yourself virtually, i.e. from the outside through the media. In ZEN SOFA ARRANGEMENT visitors are invited into a familiar setup with sofa and TV screen, but without the usual broadcasting. The screen shows a delayed video recording of the sofa and the audience seated in it, and it acts as a channel for a remote performer, a person who suddenly appears on the screen. The sofa is a double stage and the audience is in a dual role as both actor and spectator of his own actions.
VED AT OPDAGE LYDEN, FORANDRES DEN af Astrid Lomholt: The sound installation has three listening zones: Stændertorvet in Roskilde, Museum of Contemporary Art and the website www.erindring.com. The installation gives attention to ambient sounds and clarifies the social rhythm of everyday life - aesthetic, harmonic and rhythmic.
SHIFT af HC Gilje: Shift is an audio-visual installation investigating the audience’s perception of space, when picture and sound move from object to object. Using projection and placement of video and audio into a three dimensional space, moving images and sound are created from box to box.
UNSOUND af Lars Lundehave Hansen: Unsound is a barely audible composition in a very audible set-up. Large speakers pump like pistons causing small vibrations and loud thunderclaps. The quiet composition pales in comparison with the monstrous powerful sound pressure.
The exhibition TOTAL_ACTION and MAP - Media Art Platform is developed by the Museum of Contemporary Art and curated by media artist Mogens Jacobsen and lecturer and media art curator Morten Sondergaard, CIT - Copenhagen Institute of Technology in close collaboration with the exhibited artists.
The exhibition is supported by: BIKUBENFONDEN, Manden med kameraet, Damvig Develop A/S and MusikLab.dk.
