Archive
Elsebeth Jørgensen
Cinemagic Tour & Crystal Palace
The archive is the Museum of Contemporary Art’s new exhibition platform, which focuses on ways of presenting different types of archives, as well as artists whose artistic work is based on archives. The archive will open with an exhibition of the visual artist Elsebeth Jørgensen, who is working conceptually and research-based with historical archives and photographic documentation.
The exhibition presents two installations / spatial montages of photography, film, text and sound. In Cinemagic Tour # III: Selected Documents, 2005-2009 Elsebeth Jørgensen gathers elements from its growing working archive, which contains material about closed down and converted cinemas from various locations. In the Crystal Palace # II: Notes from the Archive, 2009 she is starting from Carlsberg Brewery’s private industrial archives around the creation of glasshouses, and their relation to other historical glass architecture in Copenhagen and London. In light of existing and new processing of archive material, Elsebeth Jørgensen is creating in her works new narratives and new archives through juxtapositions of fictional elements, historical archival documents and her own documentation.
