The background of the festival:
Sound and performance art are important areas of the museum's responsibilities and its primary area of expertise, specifically focusing on cross-aesthetic and ephemeral art forms. In spring / summer 2010 the museum launched a  two-day pilot project with sound art the one day and performance art on the other. This was held in connection with the exhibition Gestures - Performance and Sound Art which focused on presenting and documenting ephemeral art forms such as performance and sound art. These fields of study are concurrently set for the museum and an annual sound and performance festival is a natural intermediary step in extending this particular sphere of activity.

Establishment of ACTS:
In 2011 the museum founded ACTS - Festival of performative art as a new annual event. ACTS 2011 presented concerts, outdoor and indoor performances, sound walk and family workshop. The festival took place at the museum sites: the palace yard, garden, the stables, the museum's staircase and main building, and at Hestorvet, in the pedestrian zone, Stændertorvet and at Roskilde Library. ACTS 2011 had a special focus on Nordic artists and showed a wide range of both sound and performance art.
