Listening is something different than hearing. Listening is an act in which we choose to engage and connect, to be attentive and present. Join us for a free guided tour of the exhibition with one of our art guides. During the tour, we take a closer look at the exhibition’s concept and explore the role of sound in contemporary art today. Move close to the art and listen as we pause at selected immersive and sound-based works, where artists explore the material, poetic, sensory, social and political potential of sound in widely different ways. Along the way, you are welcome to ask questions and share your thoughts.

The tour focuses on works exhibited in one of the exhibition’s locations, Gasværket. The exhibition’s other two locations in Roskilde: Sankt Ibs Church Ruin and Vaskeriet, can be experienced independently as an extension of the tour, or on selected days as part of special guided tours.

About the exhibition

The Sound of focuses on the poetic, political and social potentials of sound in contemporary art, presenting works by an array of international and Danish artists including Hajra Waheed, Hanne Lippard, Clara Mosconi, Julian Abraham ‘Togar’, Emeka Ogboh, Cally Spooner, Francesco Fonassis, Arendse Krabbe and Annika Kahrs.

Through voices, rhythms, language and vibrations, the exhibition opens experiences that move between the intimate and the collective, between body and space, between listening and action. The exhibition presents several newly produced works together with a programme of performances, talks and activities. Explore the programme here.
