The sound of
An exhibition placing sound at the centre of contemporary art and brings together international artists to explore how it shapes space, carries memory, disturbs silence and much more. Through voices, rhythms, languages and vibrations, the works move between the intimate and the collective, between body and space, between listening and action.

Artist talk: Hajra Waheed and Athena Farrokhzad
Meet multidisciplinary artist Hajra Waheed together with writer and literary critic Athena Farrokhzad in a conversation about hope, resistance, and community. The conversation is moderated by journalist and author Jakob Sheikh and is created in collaboration with Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke/Action Aid Denmark.

Join us as we slow down in a guided tour focusing on a single work: HUM (2020) by Hajra Waheed. In this format, we listen slowly, attentively and with the entire body, exploring the many layers of voices, history and storytelling contained within the work.

A space for listening
A Space for Listening explores selected parts of the museum’s sound archive. presenting works by Brian Eno, Yoko Ono, Erik Andersen Pauline Olivers, John Cage, Laurie Anderson, Henning Christian- sen, Else Marie Pade, Jacob Kierkegaard, Kirsten Astrup, Cla- rissa Cornelly, Alvin Lucier m.fl.
Sound has played a central role in the museum’s history since its beginning. In the sound archive, we encounter sound in many forms, from recordings, written musical nota- tion and scores to instructed actions and experiments with media and tech- nology. The archive reflects an ongoing interest in sound as artistic material, social situation and mode of attention. In A Space for Listening, several listening stations and an audio play- back system allow visitors to listen to a selection of tapes, CDs and LPs from the archive, ranging from music albums and sound works to audio reportages and documentation.
